Tailor your CV to platform engineer jobs
A platform engineer CV is judged on who used what you built. Show the internal platform, tooling or paved road you created, how many teams relied on it, and what it saved them, using the advert's own words for the tools.

What your CV has to make obvious
- The internal users: how many teams or engineers used what you built
- What became self-service that used to need a ticket
- The standards you set: templates, golden paths, guardrails
- How you found out what developers needed, and changed course
One bullet, before and after
Before
Maintained Kubernetes clusters and Helm charts for the company.
After
Ran the shared EKS platform for 30 product teams and wrote the Helm chart template every new service starts from, so a team can deploy a new service on its first day.
Swap in your own scale. 'Three teams' is a real platform too; the point is that someone else relied on it.
Common mistakes
Describing the cluster, not the customers
Platform work is a product for other engineers. A CV that never mentions who used it reads like an operations role.
Leaving out the developer experience
Fewer tickets, faster onboarding, one command to get a new service: these are the outcomes platform teams are hired for.
Listing every add-on in the cluster
Pick the parts you designed or chose, and say why. That's the judgement the interview will test.
Interview questions to prepare for
- How did you decide what the platform should offer, and what to leave to teams?
- Tell me about a time developers didn't adopt something you built. What did you do?
- How do you roll out a breaking change to a platform thirty teams depend on?
- How would you measure whether the platform is any good?
- Walk me through what happens when a team creates a new service on your platform.
